Poor Joe!
Did you hear that terrorists are threatening to behead G. I. Joe? I don't know why it's such a big deal. At our house we beheaded Barbie's beau Ken a long time ago. Nobody seemed to care. Do you think this is a case of anti-girls'-doll bias?
For more funny stuff on this story see Scrappleface, as he gives an account of Joe's rescue and Powerline, who has news of other hostages.

Wittingshire
On a more serious note, Amanda Witt, co-author of Wittingshire has written a haunting and beautiful piece called Eternity Set In Our Hearts. I'm not going to describe it, because I wouldn't do it justice. Just go read it.
Voice of the Martyrs
Voice of the Martyrs operates a web site with updates on the persecuted church worldwide. You can sign up for a weekly email newsletter that keeps you updated on persecution news worldwide. Even if you don't sign in, there's a lot of information available on the site. For example, there is news of a prominent Chinese pastor, the leader of a network of house churches who has been arrested and has disappeared. He needs your prayers. Voice of the Martyrs provides the information you need to pray specifically for those suffering under persecution and to write letters of appeal for our persecuted brothers and sisters. It also provides a perfect motivation for Christians living in cushy free countries like my own to quit complaining about how tough things are and be truly grateful for our freedom and for the opportunities we have to have a positive Christian influence in our homelands.
Anagram: BLESCRAB
Are you a fan of a certain word game that uses tiles to spell words? You know the one I mean. You take a rack full of letters, say S, C, R, A, B, B, and L, and then add it to letters already on the board, such as an E, perhaps, and then get points for the letters you use? (I would mention the name of the game, but I understand they guard their trademark quite carefully, and I wouldn't want to misstep.) Anyway, there is a site where you can enjoy just such a game by inviting your friend or friends to play. The opponent's plays get emailed to you, and you can log on and make your play at your leisure. You play for free, though donations are accepted. I like to toss them ten bucks every now and then. My friend Karen and I play all the time. (She vexes me with her exes.) So go invite a friend and anagram your evenings away. (And if you can't find a friend, invite me!) Well, I gotta go. It's my turn...
